A transverse section of a glossy privet leaf (Ligustrum lucidum t.s.) stained with Fast Green, highlighting the classic dorsiventral anatomical organization of a mesomorphic dicotyledonous lamina. The V-shaped section clearly demonstrates a prominent midrib region with a centrally located main vascular bundle flanked by expansive lateral leaf blades. The adaxial surface is covered by a thick protective cuticle above a single layer of upper epidermal cells. Immediately beneath, a dense layer of elongated palisade mesophyll cells forms the primary photosynthetic tissue, while the lower abaxial region consists of loosely arranged spongy mesophyll parenchyma with extensive intercellular air spaces. Small lateral vascular veins containing xylem vessels and phloem are distributed throughout the mesophyll.
